IFFR flies high at the Singapore Rotary International Convention

IFFR was well represented again at the Rotary International Conference in Singapore. Fortunately, we had a corner booth in the House of Friendship which, promoting both IFFR and the amazing Flight to End Polio (with both Peter Teahan and John Ockenfels present), drew much attention, had many visitors including RI President Gordon McInally and led to nearly 20 new members joining IFFR.

Thanks go especially to the team from IFFR Hong Kong, including Eric Chin and Francis and Matthew Shum who ensured the booth was manned at all times.  Great job, team!

Also, during the Convention, between them, John and Peter received Rotary’s and the Rotary Foundation’s highest awards – and had a great slot as the finale to one of the Convention Plenary Sessions.

The IFFR banquet was held on the Saturday night in the delightful surroundings of a private members club, hosted by Singapore District 3310  IPDG Joanne Kam.  Joined by members from all 3 regions, we enjoyed an excellent Asian feast before I presented IFFR’s highest honour award, IFFR Flyer of the Year to John Ockenfels and Peter Teahan for their successful Flight to End Polio global circumnavigation. Thanks go to PWP George Chaffey for organising our gala dinner.

And the good news is, while in Singapore we secured a block of hotel rooms at the Fairmont Palliser hotel in Calgary for the RI Convention in 2025.  Planning is now underway for the 2025 post Convention flyaway. I’m sure you’ll be hearing from Mike and his team about plans for Calgary in the not too distant future.
