The Brian Condon Memorial Flying Scholarship

IFFR Australia is honouring the past and looking to the future with the launch of the Brian Condon Memorial Flying Scholarship, which aims to help one lucky young person launch into aviation.

Brian Condon was Australia’s first IFFR World President, from 1994-1996, and a huge supporter of Rotary, IFFR and his local flying club.  Brian had joined Rotary in 1959, and remained an active member until he passed on to higher service earlier this year, just a few days short of his 96th birthday. In recognition of his remarkable contributions, the members of IFFR Australia have decided to honour his memory by awarding a flying scholarship in his name.

The IFFR Brian Condon Memorial Flying Scholarship was launched a few weeks ago.  It is being promoted to all Rotary Clubs in Australia via Rotary Down Under magazine, circulated to Rotarians in Australia, New Zealand and Oceania together with a great feature on IFFR “The Sky is the Limit!”.

Applications invited – flyer to Australian Rotary Clubs

The concept is to foster an interest in aviation as a career or hobby, within the context of Rotary’s many Youth initiatives. Rotary Clubs can participate by seeking applications from youth within their community. A Flying Scholarship to the value of $5,000 will be provided by IFFR Australia being a contribution to the successful applicant’s Recreational Pilot Licence as a first step in obtaining their Private or Commercial Pilot Licence.

What a great way to promote IFFR, to get the message out to all Rotary clubs in Australia, and to help stimulate interest in flying and in IFFR.  In future editions of Rotary Down Under, Rob, Mike and the team hope to publish further articles about Brian’s amazing life, and in due course, charting the progress of the scholarship winner.
